The Mass Begins Parish Life
It’s Sunday, 6:30 a.m. In the quiet of the sacristy of St. Peter Claver Church in West Hartford, the Rev. James L. McKearney is quietly explaining preparations for four morning Masses to Eddie Spinella, a tall, handsome 16-year-old Northwest Catholic High School sophomore with curly black hair and a shy smile.
Eddie dutifully readies the vestments the priests will wear.

wine into separate glass jars, fills two ciboriums sacred silver bowls in which the Communion wafers will be consecrated during Mass washes the chalices and readies the altar for services.
Eddie is helping out at St.
Peter Claver to fulfill 18 hours of community service, required of all Northwest students. He’s here because of his admiration for McKearney Father Jim and his need to become more involved in his religion.
